Audiometry, noise surveys, fire training, fire risk assessment

Free stuff

There is very little that is 100% new in health and safety. Most people, when writing procedures, policies, training courses, etc. are setting out information that scores of others have also done before, just with some changes in detail, organisation or approach to reflect the business that they are in.

Because HSMC is a generous and benevolent organisation, given below are some health and safety documents which can be downloaded and used either as the basis for your own procedures or training packages, or merely as reference material. Feel free to use them in their entirety, to use small sections only, to give you some ideas for developing your own from scratch, or to take one look at them and say 'not on your nelly' and go elsewhere.

All documents pander to the Great God Microsoft and are in Word or PowerPoint format. Click on the link, press 'save' and away you go. Or you can just press 'open' and view them in your browser (they will open in a new window). Prepare to be dazzled.

Health and Safety Procedures

Forms, assessments and audits

  • Display Screen Equipment Self-Assessment Form. For a DSE risk assessment. Suggest users complete it for their workstations (after instruction) and then someone who knows their onions goes through the completed assessments.

  • Basic Risk Assessment. A really basic risk assessment form, but it works, is understandable and not overly complicated. Relates to the procedure above.

  • Risk Assessment Matrix. Kind of goes with the basic assessment form above. A simple one-page matrix.

  • Monthly Fire Safety Inspection. Covers the main fire issues which all businesses should inspect every month. Kind of says it all in the title really.

  • Compliance Audit. A regulatory audit, based on common UK H&S legislation. Includes around 20 different audit checklists. Its a zip folder with Word documents. Make sure to go through the Read Me First file before diving in.

  • Hot Work Permit. A short one-page permit form for hot work.

  • Telephone Threat Checklist. A short checklist for security threats aginst the company. A record to use when the mad people telephone you.

Training courses

  • None yet. You'll just have to hold your horses.

And the legal stuff:
While we think these documents are pretty damn good at what they are trying to be, we can't take any responsibility for your use and implementation of them. (If you want us to do that, we're happy to develop them for your business in exchange for cold hard cash). If you get it wrong and the horned devils from the HSE come knocking on your door don't even think of sending them in our direction.

Anyone looking to develop in-house procedures, training courses, etc. can download these to their hearts content and they are free for your use.

For consultants or anyone looking at doing H&S work for other people: Please contact us first before using any of these documents as part of a package which you are selling to clients. While we're not going to say no (after all, we're not making any money from them) it would be polite to ask first before we help you feather your nest. In fact, we're going to stamp our feet and say that you can't use them unless you've asked us first. Or we'll tell our mums and you won't like that.

For other websites, feel free to link to this page if you wish but no taking the documents and hosting them on your own sites. That would be very naughty and not a little displeasing to us.
