DSE Trainer Training & DSE Competent Person

Display Screen Equipment - DSE - is a fancy term for computers or other tools which have a display and commonly a keyboard and are present in most workplaces. Sometimes referred to as VDUs, employers need to assess the risks to users and those users require training in its correct use, including the risks which may arise and how they can control them. For those all-important cost-savings, we can train your personnel in the principles of DSE safety, including the issues covered by DSE risk assessments and the information which must be given to others as part of their training. This course gives attendees a complete background in DSE safety, allowing them to undertake DSE assessments and present DSE Awareness courses to others.

Potential risks from DSE

Examination of the types of risks which DSE users face arising from poor ergonomics or posture, repetitive tasks and incorrectly set-up equipment. We look at the type of injuries which arise and how they are caused.

DSE Regulations and DSE Risk Assessment

What is required for both employers and DSE users, moving into DSE risk assessments, including practical exercises in completing and analysing the risk assessments.

Setting up a DSE / VDU
Workstation
A step-by-step run-through of how to avoid the potential DSE problems discussed in the introduction, including desk, keyboard and chair adjustments, monitor positioning, breaks, resting of eyes, etc. We also review the different types of IT accessories available reducing DSE risks.
DSE Training Techniques A trainer training module. Basic techniques for delivery of training courses to others. Includes practical exercise of preparation and delivery of a short presentation.
DSE Training for others Review of the type of DSE course they will be expected to present (a complete take-away course is included in the course fee along with trainer's notes), the type of questions they can expect to come up and the type of notes and other information available to them.
Assessment To ensure attendee comprehension, a short assessment is included at the end. For those who choose not to take this, course attendance certificates will be issued.
