Fire Manager Training
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, companies must appoint an individual in writing who will be responsible for fire safety in the workplace. This doesn't mean someone who can design and specify an alarm system or who can complete detailed fire risk assessments but it does mean someone who knows what is required for their company and how it should be approached.
A Fire Manager may not actually do most of the routine checks and inspections but will usually oversee those who do (usually the Fire Marshals or safety Reps.) although it is equally valid to merge these roles.

Fire Manager : course content
Introduction to fire safety |
Covers the basic principles of fire and introduces some of the key regulatory concepts and requirements. While it is important that Fire Managers understand what the regulations require of them we know there is nothing more boring than someone droning on about a list of regulations therefore it is scattered throughout the course rather than given to attendees in one indigestion-inducing lump. |
| Fire spread and control |
How fires are controlled in buildings and how they can be expected to develop if unattended. Helps give an understanding of why certain controls are in place and the need for ongoing management of them. |
| Fire fighting |
The equipment commonly used for fighting fires, its suitability, specifications for placement and numbers of units and the requirements for its ongoing inspection and testing. Chance to release all that pent-up tension and let rip with some extinguishers. |
| Fire protection systems |
Includes emergency lighting and fire alarms. The intent is not to turn attendees into alarm-specifying fire gods, but to give them an understanding of what the alarm and emergency lighting systems are trying to do and to make them aware of the routine inspection requirements. |
| Planning for fire |
Despite the wannabe-arsonist sounding title, this module covers what systems Fire Managers should be putting in place to control fire risks. Includes routine inspections and tests, fire procedures, evacuation plans, fire drills, etc. |
